Plant-based diet can quickly slow down the rate of aging, and global health trends shift to plant-based foods

On August 26, the latest research released by the Canadian Plant-Based Food Research Center showed that plant-based diets can effectively slow down the biological aging process in just eight weeks. The findings provide scientific support for the growing number of people around the world who are choosing to go vegetarian, highlighting the profound impact of plant-based diets on health.

The study was conducted on 21 pairs of 39-year-old twins. One twin follows a healthy vegan diet, while the other continues to maintain a balanced omnivore diet. The results showed that vegetarians experienced significantly slower epigenetic aging than their omnivorous siblings and lost an average of two kilograms in weight due to fewer calories consumed each day.

The relationship between aging and disease

The study further noted that vegetarians experienced significant reductions in disease progression across multiple systems, particularly inflammation, heart, liver, and metabolic systems. This result is consistent with previous research and further confirms that a plant-based diet can effectively delay aging and reduce the risk of disease due to its rich antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

In addition, the research report also mentioned that vegetarians consume less saturated fat and significantly increase their polyunsaturated fat and fiber intake. The researchers believe that these dietary characteristics are closely related to slowing the aging process and weight loss, although further research is needed to reveal the underlying mechanisms.
